Thames Concerts are delighted to announce an additional concert to the 2012 season, to be given by celebrated guitarist Craig Ogden, at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 4th July at Kingston’s United Reformed Church.
Australian born guitarist Craig Ogden is one of the most exciting artists of his generation. He studied guitar from the age of seven and percussion from the age of thirteen. He is the youngest instrumentalist to have received a Fellowship Award from the RNCM in Manchester.
His many recordings for Virgin/EMI, Chandos, Nimbus, Hyperion, Sony and Classic FM have received wide acclaim. Ogden’s Classic FM albums The Guitarist and Summertime both shot straight to no.1 in the UK classical chart in summer 2010 and 2011 respectively. Craig Ogden has performed concertos with all of the main UK orchestras plus many abroad and has presented on BBC Radio 3 and on ABC Classic FM (Australia). He is Principal Lecturer in Guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and Visiting Lecturer at London’s Royal College of Music.
During the day, Craig will be working with young guitarists in Kingston schools and the hour-long programme will begin with Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto in D, accompanied by the Tiffin Chamber Orchestra. The programme includes some of the classics of the guitar repertoire, including Tarrega’s Recuerdos de la Alhambra and Asturia by Albeniz.
Tickets are £10 (£5 for those in full-time education) and are available from the Rose Theatre Box Office at http://www.rosetheatrekingston.org/white-label/craig-ogden and 08444 821 556.
